William Anderson was born in North Minneapolis in 1888. He attended North High School, and then the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1913. He began teaching political science at the University of Minnesota in 1916, and remained until his retirement in 1957, serving as chairman of the political science department from 1927-1932 and 1937-1947.
